Stock market update: Nifty Bank index falls 0.79% in a weak market

Punjab National Bank(down 3.73 per cent), Bank of Baroda(down 2.67 per cent), Axis Bank Ltd.(down 2.01 per cent), State Bank of India(down 1.87 per cent) and Au Small Finance Bank Ltd.(down 1.2 per cent) were the top losers on the index.

The Nifty Bank index was down 0.79 per cent at 46418.75 at the time of writing this report.

Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index was down 179.31 points at 21967.35, while the BSE Sensex was down 516.81 points at 72580.47.

Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 8 were trading in the green, while 42 were in the red.

Shares of YES Bank, Vodafone Idea, NHPC, Indian Railway Fin and Infibeam Avenues were among the most traded shares on the NSE.

Shares of R K Swamy, Somi Conveyor, Gopal Snacks, Diamond Power and Tarapur Trans hit their fresh 52-week highs in today's trade, while Mask Investments, The Western India, Lakshmi Precis, Vaxtex Cotfab and Stampede Cap(DVR)hit fresh 52-week lows in trade.
