The Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) has approved CRISIL ESG Ratings & Analytics Limited as a Category 1 provider of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) ratings. The approval comes at a time when ESG disclosures are improving and financial markets recognize the need for independent ESG ratings.
The Securities and Exchange Board of India () has given approval to CRISIL & Analytics Limited to provide environmental, social and governance (ESG) ratings.CRISIL ESG Ratings & Analytics Limited, which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Ratings Limited has been approved as a Category 1 provider of ESG ratings, the rating firm said on Thursday.
“The approval comes at an opportune time when have been improving and there is increasing realisation in the financial markets on the need for that will support decision-making for issuers and investors, and channel funds towards sustainable growth of the ,” said , MD, CEO, CRISIL.
In 2021, CRISIL had launched an ESG scoring business, with its coverage expanding to around 1000 companies from 225 across 65 sectors, the rating agency said. That business will now be transferred to CRISIL ESG Ratings.
