Canada stocks lower at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite down 0.57%

Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Materials , IT and Clean Technology sectors led shares lower.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 0.57%.

The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were National Bank of Canada (TSX:NA ), which rose 5.86% or 7.02 points to trade at 126.91 at the close. Meanwhile, Canadian Western Bank (TSX:CWB ) added 4.48% or 2.25 points to end at 52.42 and Royal Bank of Canada (TSX:RY ) was up 2.18% or 3.41 points to 159.98 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Kinaxis Inc (TSX:KXS ), which fell 14.54% or 22.79 points to trade at 133.95 at the close. Ivanhoe Mines Ltd. (TSX:IVN ) declined 5.58% or 1.06 points to end at 17.93 and Capstone Mining Corp (TSX:CS ) was down 4.99% or 0.49 points to 9.32.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 598 to 307 and 119 ended unchanged.

Shares in National Bank of Canada (TSX:NA ) rose to all time highs; up 5.86% or 7.02 to 126.91. Shares in Canadian Western Bank (TSX:CWB ) rose to all time highs; gaining 4.48% or 2.25 to 52.42. Shares in Royal Bank of Canada (TSX:RY ) rose to all time highs; rising 2.18% or 3.41 to 159.98.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 3.02% to 10.91.

Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.47% or 11.95 to $2,540.95 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 1.24% or 0.94 to hit $74.59 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 1.36% or 1.07 to trade at $77.59 a barrel.

CAD/USD was unchanged 0.27% to 0.74, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.36% to 0.67.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.53% at 100.99.
