U.S. stocks mixed at close of trade; Dow Jones Industrial Average up 0.33%

Investing.com – U.S. stocks were mixed after the close on Friday, as gains in the Oil & Gas , Utilities and Consumer Goods sectors led shares higher while losses in the Technology , Consumer Services and Basic Materials sectors led shares lower.

At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.33% to hit a new all time high, while the S&P 500 index lost 0.13%, and the NASDAQ Composite index declined 0.40%.

The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Chevron Corp (NYSE:CVX ), which rose 2.47% or 3.50 points to trade at 145.49 at the close. Meanwhile, Visa Inc Class A (NYSE:V ) added 1.28% or 3.48 points to end at 275.17 and Unitedhealth Group (NYSE:UNH ) was up 1.22% or 7.04 points to 581.85 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN ), which fell 1.67% or 3.19 points to trade at 187.97 at the close. 3M Company (NYSE:MMM ) declined 1.53% or 2.14 points to end at 137.30 and International Business Machines (NYSE:IBM ) was down 1.16% or 2.59 points to 220.84.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were Wynn Resorts Limited (NASDAQ:WYNN ) which rose 7.26% to 97.64, Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ:WBA ) which was up 6.34% to settle at 9.06 and APA Corporation (NASDAQ:APA ) which gained 5.96% to close at 24.53.

The worst performers were Globe Life Inc (NYSE:GL ) which was down 4.74% to 104.40 in late trade, Universal Health Services Inc (NYSE:UHS ) which lost 4.07% to settle at 229.92 and HP Inc (NYSE:HPQ ) which was down 3.91% to 35.41 at the close.

The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were NLS Pharmaceutics AG (NASDAQ:NLSP ) which rose 4,060.00% to 5.20, Seelos Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:SEEL ) which was up 1,146.01% to settle at 3.90 and Uxin Ltd (NASDAQ:UXIN ) which gained 83.75% to close at 5.20.

The worst performers were Intchains Group Ltd ADR (NASDAQ:ICG ) which was down 43.99% to 4.75 in late trade, Edible Garden AG Inc (NASDAQ:EDBL ) which lost 37.63% to settle at 0.29 and enVVeno Medical Corp (NASDAQ:NVNO ) which was down 28.00% to 3.24 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 1758 to 1022 and 104 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1962 rose and 1306 declined, while 120 ended unchanged.

Shares in NLS Pharmaceutics AG (NASDAQ:NLSP ) rose to 3-years highs; rising 4,060.00% or 5.07 to 5.20. Shares in Intchains Group Ltd ADR (NASDAQ:ICG ) fell to all time lows; falling 43.99% or 3.73 to 4.75. Shares in Edible Garden AG Inc (NASDAQ:EDBL ) fell to all time lows; losing 37.63% or 0.18 to 0.29. Shares in enVVeno Medical Corp (NASDAQ:NVNO ) fell to 52-week lows; falling 28.00% or 1.26 to 3.24.

The CBOE Volatility Index , which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 10.34% to 16.96.

Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.70% or 18.90 to $2,676.00 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 1.39% or 0.94 to hit $68.61 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 1.20% or 0.85 to trade at $71.94 a barrel.

EUR/USD was unchanged 0.09% to 1.12, while USD/JPY fell 1.83% to 142.15.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.13% at 100.12.
