NEW DELHI: The Nifty Pharma index closed on a negative note on Wednesday.Shares of Biocon Ltd.(up 2.59 per cent), Abbott India Ltd.(up 2.28 per cent), Laurus Labs Ltd.(up 1.21 per cent), Ipca Laboratories Ltd.(up 0.66 per cent) and Zydus Lifesciences Ltd.(up 0.52 per cent) ended the day as top gainers in the pack.
On the other hand, Natco Pharma Ltd.(down 3.42 per cent), Aurobindo Pharma Ltd.(down 2.06 per cent), Cipla Ltd.(down 1.89 per cent), Divi's Laboratories Ltd.(down 1.74 per cent) and Alkem Laboratories Ltd.(down 1.19 per cent) finished as the top losers of the day.
The Nifty Pharma index closed 0.34 per cent down at 19117.0.
Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index ended up 111.05 points at 22753.8, while the BSE Sensex stood up 354.45 points at 75038.15.
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 31 ended in the green, while 19 closed in the red.
Shares of Vodafone Idea, YES Bank, Vedanta, NMDC Steel and Tata Steel were among the most traded shares on the NSE.
Shares of Ganges Securities, Emkay Global, Jubilant Ingrevia, DC Infotech and GKW Ltd hit their fresh 52-week highs in today's trade, while Melstar Info, GIR Natureview, Websol Energy, Lakshmi Precis and BDR Buildcon hit their fresh 52-week lows.
