U.S. stocks mixed at close of trade; Dow Jones Industrial Average up 0.32%

Investing.com – U.S. stocks were mixed after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Healthcare , Oil & Gas and Telecoms sectors led shares higher while losses in the Financials , Technology and Consumer Services sectors led shares lower.

At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.32%, while the S&P 500 index gained 0.00%, and the NASDAQ Composite index fell 0.11%.

The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Unitedhealth Group (NYSE:UNH ), which rose 4.07% or 23.50 points to trade at 600.50 at the close. Meanwhile, Amgen Inc (NASDAQ:AMGN ) added 2.83% or 7.92 points to end at 287.87 and International Business Machines (NYSE:IBM ) was up 2.07% or 4.35 points to 214.60 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Home Depot Inc (NYSE:HD ), which fell 1.67% or 6.80 points to trade at 400.00 at the close. Visa Inc Class A (NYSE:V ) declined 1.45% or 4.53 points to end at 307.32 and JPMorgan Chase & Co (NYSE:JPM ) was down 0.93% or 2.25 points to 240.84.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were Keysight Technologies Inc (NYSE:KEYS ) which rose 8.78% to 165.48, Humana Inc (NYSE:HUM ) which was up 5.83% to settle at 293.97 and CoStar Group Inc (NASDAQ:CSGP ) which gained 5.80% to close at 76.27.

The worst performers were Target Corporation (NYSE:TGT ) which was down 21.97% to 121.72 in late trade, Super Micro Computer Inc (NASDAQ:SMCI ) which lost 8.74% to settle at 25.80 and Qualcomm Incorporated (NASDAQ:QCOM ) which was down 6.34% to 154.27 at the close.

The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Jeffs Brands Ltd Unit (NASDAQ:JFBR ) which rose 1,360.00% to 2.92, Forte Biosciences Inc (NASDAQ:FBRX ) which was up 128.69% to settle at 13.55 and QuantumSi Inc (NASDAQ:QSI ) which gained 119.59% to close at 1.39.

The worst performers were Nova Vision Acquisition Corp (NASDAQ:RMSG ) which was down 89.84% to 3.76 in late trade, SKK Holdings Ltd (NASDAQ:SKK ) which lost 47.16% to settle at 4.56 and QMMM Holdings Ltd (NASDAQ:QMMM ) which was down 43.94% to 0.71 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 1459 to 1322 and 110 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1681 fell and 1595 advanced, while 139 ended unchanged.

Shares in Keysight Technologies Inc (NYSE:KEYS ) rose to 52-week highs; gaining 8.78% or 13.35 to 165.48. Shares in Target Corporation (NYSE:TGT ) fell to 52-week lows; losing 21.97% or 34.28 to 121.72. Shares in Nova Vision Acquisition Corp (NASDAQ:RMSG ) fell to all time lows; down 89.84% or 33.24 to 3.76. Shares in QMMM Holdings Ltd (NASDAQ:QMMM ) fell to all time lows; down 43.94% or 0.56 to 0.71.

The CBOE Volatility Index , which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 4.95% to 17.16.

Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.83% or 21.80 to $2,652.80 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 0.30% or 0.21 to hit $69.03 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 0.33% or 0.24 to trade at $73.07 a barrel.

EUR/USD was down 0.51% to 1.05, while USD/JPY rose 0.51% to 155.44.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.46% at 106.63.
