U.S. stocks higher at close of trade; Dow Jones Industrial Average up 0.88%

Investing.com – U.S. stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Consumer Goods , Technology and Industrials sectors led shares higher.

At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.88%, while the S&P 500 index added 1.12%, and the NASDAQ Composite index gained 1.40%.

The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC ), which rose 3.66% or 0.83 points to trade at 23.35 at the close. Meanwhile, Goldman Sachs Group Inc (NYSE:GS ) added 2.35% or 12.04 points to end at 523.51 and American Express Company (NYSE:AXP ) was up 1.94% or 5.23 points to 275.42 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Boeing Co (NYSE:BA ), which fell 2.37% or 3.67 points to trade at 151.40 at the close. Chevron Corp (NYSE:CVX ) declined 0.73% or 1.13 points to end at 152.84 and Dow Inc (NYSE:DOW ) was down 0.57% or 0.28 points to 47.68.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were Palantir Technologies Inc (NYSE:PLTR ) which rose 24.43% to 51.53, Cummins Inc (NYSE:CMI ) which was up 8.93% to settle at 354.68 and Emerson Electric Company (NYSE:EMR ) which gained 7.00% to close at 117.50.

The worst performers were Celanese Corporation (NYSE:CE ) which was down 25.43% to 92.09 in late trade, Wynn Resorts Limited (NASDAQ:WYNN ) which lost 9.79% to settle at 86.29 and Archer-Daniels-Midland Company (NYSE:ADM ) which was down 7.12% to 51.36 at the close.

The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Zoomcar Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:ZCAR ) which rose 257.30% to 14.40, Bionomics Ltd ADR (NASDAQ:BNOX ) which was up 172.24% to settle at 0.52 and Bluejay Diagnostics Inc (NASDAQ:BJDX ) which gained 84.50% to close at 0.13.

The worst performers were Verrica Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:VRCA ) which was down 43.24% to 0.81 in late trade, Marqeta Inc (NASDAQ:MQ ) which lost 42.10% to settle at 3.45 and Lilium NV (NASDAQ:LILM ) which was down 35.52% to 0.05 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 2138 to 629 and 65 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2339 rose and 976 declined, while 47 ended unchanged.

Shares in Palantir Technologies Inc (NYSE:PLTR ) rose to all time highs; rising 24.43% or 10.12 to 51.53. Shares in Celanese Corporation (NYSE:CE ) fell to 52-week lows; losing 25.43% or 31.41 to 92.09. Shares in Cummins Inc (NYSE:CMI ) rose to all time highs; gaining 8.93% or 29.06 to 354.68. Shares in Archer-Daniels-Midland Company (NYSE:ADM ) fell to 3-years lows; falling 7.12% or 3.94 to 51.36. Shares in Dow Inc (NYSE:DOW ) fell to 52-week lows; falling 0.57% or 0.28 to 47.68. Shares in Verrica Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:VRCA ) fell to all time lows; losing 43.24% or 0.62 to 0.81. Shares in Marqeta Inc (NASDAQ:MQ ) fell to all time lows; down 42.10% or 2.51 to 3.45. Shares in Lilium NV (NASDAQ:LILM ) fell to all time lows; down 35.52% or 0.03 to 0.05.

The CBOE Volatility Index , which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 5.73% to 20.72.

Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.17% or 4.80 to $2,751.00 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 0.78% or 0.56 to hit $72.03 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 0.59% or 0.44 to trade at $75.52 a barrel.

EUR/USD was up 0.46% to 1.09, while USD/JPY fell 0.48% to 151.40.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.43% at 103.35.
