As per the BSE holiday calendar, trading holidays have been announced for 14 days in 2024. Previously the stock markets were closed on January 26 for Republic Day, March 8 for Shivratri and March 25 for Holi.
Indian stock exchanges and will remain closed for trading on Friday, March 29 on account of . The country's largest commodity market the Multi Commodity Exchange of India () and non-agri commodity exchange will also remain shut for trading.The truncated week saw only three trading sessions. On Monday, March 25, equity markets were closed on account of Holi.

Equity markets will remain closed on two occasions in April, once each in May, June, July, August, October, December, and twice in November. November 1, Friday will be Diwali (Laxmi Pujan) and Muhurat Trading will be conducted by the exchanges, the timings for which will be notified later.
Any change in the holiday calendar will be announced through a separate circular in advance.

The Indian headline indices were trading positive on Thursday. While the S&P BSE Sensex was trading at 73,696.36, up by 700.05 points or 0.96%, the broader Nifty was trading with gains of 215.40 points or 0.97% at 22,339.05.
The Nifty breadth was skewed in favour of the bulls with 44 stocks trading in the green and six in the red. Barring media stocks, all other sectors witnessed strong buying action with banks and financial stocks taking the lead.
While Asian markets were trading mixed, the handover from the US market was positive and aided the domestic markets.
