Stock market update: Nifty Pharma index advances 1.2%

On the other hand, Sanofi India Ltd.(down 2.25 per cent), GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceuticals Ltd.(down 0.64 per cent), Pfizer Ltd.(down 0.45 per cent) and Abbott India Ltd.(down 0.06 per cent) finished as the top losers of the day.

The Nifty Pharma index closed 1.2 per cent up at 18582.6.

Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index ended up 172.86 points at 22011.95, while the BSE Sensex stood up 539.5 points at 72641.19.

Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 43 ended in the green, while 7 closed in the red.

Shares of YES Bank, Vodafone Idea, Tata Steel, SAIL and NHPC were among the most traded shares on the NSE.

Shares of The Hi-Tech Gears, eMudhra, Rico Auto, Reliance Infra and ABB Power hit their fresh 52-week highs in today's trade, while Medico Remedies, Vaxtex Cotfab, M K Proteins, SCI Land and Assets and Compuage Infocom hit their fresh 52-week lows.
