NHTSA closes probe into more than 1.3 million GM vehicles over seat belt issues

(Reuters) -The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said on Wednesday it has closed an engineering analysis into issues with front seat belt in more than 1.3 million General Motors (NYSE:GM ) vehicles.

In 2020, NHTSA's Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) had opened an engineering analysis to investigate instances of detachment of the seat belt anchor cable in front seats on GM vehicles.

The investigation included model 2009 through 2014 GMC Arcadia, Buick Enclave and Chevrolet Traverse SUVs among others.



These vehicles were previously repaired under a recall.

The U.S. regulators' decision to close the investigation comes as GM expanded special coverage to all affected vehicles, which allows for component replacement for 12 years or 180,000 miles from the initial sale.
