Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Power , Public Sector Undertakings and Capital Goods sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 1.23% to hit a new 3-months low, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 1.16%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Trent Ltd (NS:TREN ), which rose 0.74% or 47.85 points to trade at 6,528.55 at the close. Meanwhile, Infosys Ltd (NS:INFY ) added 0.47% or 8.70 points to end at 1,868.80 and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NS:SUN ) was up 0.35% or 6.25 points to 1,800.85 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Britannia Industries Ltd (NS:BRIT ), which fell 7.49% or 407.10 points to trade at 5,027.55 at the close. Bharat Electronics Ltd (NS:BAJE ) declined 3.20% or 9.60 points to end at 290.15 and NTPC Ltd (NS:NTPC ) was down 3.12% or 12.25 points to 380.30.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN ) which rose 0.28% to 1,800.00, Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY ) which was up 0.06% to settle at 1,861.10 and ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK ) which gained 0.04% to close at 1,269.60.
The worst performers were NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC ) which was down 3.06% to 380.45 in late trade, Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN ) which lost 2.79% to settle at 2,471.80 and HDFC Bank Ltd (BO:HDBK ) which was down 2.75% to 1,718.00 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1918 to 533 and 160 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2589 fell and 1179 advanced, while 96 ended unchanged.
Shares in Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN ) fell to 3-years lows; falling 2.79% or 70.85 to 2,471.80.
The India VIX , which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 3.28% to 14.74.
Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.76% or 19.90 to $2,597.80 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 0.56% or 0.38 to hit $68.42 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 0.52% or 0.37 to trade at $72.20 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.03% to 84.39, while EUR/INR fell 0.45% to 89.55.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.34% at 105.82.
