A Bitcoin ETF, or Exchange-Traded Fund, is a type of investment fund that tracks the price of Bitcoin. It enables investors to gain exposure to Bitcoin without owning the digital currency directly. Instead, investors can purchase shares of the ETF, representing ownership of a portion of the underlying Bitcoin holdings held by the fund.
Bitcoin ETFs are traded on traditional stock exchanges, making them accessible to a broader range of investors and potentially offering more liquidity compared to purchasing Bitcoin directly from cryptocurrency exchanges.
In addition to his investment in Bitcoin ETF, Shashi Tharoor's overseas investments include equities worth Rs 9.33 crore, corporate bonds valued at Rs 3.46 crore, certificate of deposits amounting to Rs 91.7 lakhs, options investments totaling Rs 19.98 lakhs, investment in US Treasury Securities worth Rs 2 crore, and a loan to Estee Capital LLC, USA, amounting to Rs 1.1 crore.
His affidavit also showcased that the Congress candidate has Rs 36,000 in cash in hand. Additionally, he holds investments in several mutual funds and other investment schemes. According to the affidavit filed with the Election Commission of India, his total movable assets amount to Rs 49.3 crore.
Apart from this, Tharoor also holds immovable assets worth Rs 6.75 crore.
Shashi Tharoor, who is contesting from Kerala's Thiruvananthapuram constituency, is a sitting Member of Parliament from there. He filed his nomination on Wednesday.
